Covering approximately 37.6 square miles and including the areas of Launiupoko, Lahaina, Napili, Kahana, Honokowai, Kapalua, Kaanapali, and Olowalu, West Maui is home to the majority of the island’s hotel and resort developments. Lined with beautiful beaches and world-class golf courses, the area is perhaps the most-visited spot in Maui, recognized for its many restaurants, shopping centers, luxe condos, and timeshares.
Once a retreat for Hawaiian royalty, the scenic stretch of land still maintains its graceful charm and has only one main thoroughfare: the Honoapiilani Highway, which runs parallel to the shoreline and around the West Maui Mountains.
In addition to amazing sunsets and spectacular resorts, you’ll find unique character in every town here. The historic whaling town of Lahaina features rustic buildings and bustling shops; Kaanapali offers a beachwalk with charming restaurants and retail; and in Kapalua, golfers will enjoy the private seclusion of some championship golf courses.
Most condos here are situated right on the ocean and feature elaborate amenities. But this area’s beautiful beaches and breathtaking scenery comes with a hefty price tag. The West Side is considered one of the most expensive places to live on Maui.

Things to Do
There are many activities and events to participate in here. Many visitors and residents frequent the Honolua Bay, which is known for snorkeling in summer and surfing in winter. There’s also Kaanapali Beach, which features resorts, eateries, and shopping, plus a scenic beachwalk and opportunities for swimming and snorkeling.
The
Kapalua Wine & Food Festival is the longest-running food and wine event in the USA. The annual event is a celebration of epicurean excellence and embraces the fabulous culinary bounty on Maui.
Each January, the PGA Tournament of Champions is held at The Legendary Plantation Course. During this event, attendees can watch as golf’s greatest players compete for a prestigious title.
And the
Old Lahaina Luau, Maui's traditional hula and feast, is a can’t-miss event.
